What is the difference between “most”
and “almost” in a sentence?
Most = the majority, close to 100%
Most is usually used before a plural noun...
• Most Americans own at least one television.
or used with “of” in a sentence. “Most of” can be used before singular or plural nouns.
• Most of my favorite movies are romantic comedies.
• I ate most of my lunch and I took the rest of it home.
• I watched most of the movie, but then I fell asleep.

Almost = nearly, close to
Almost is usually used before a plural noun.
• Almost everyone I know has a cell phone.
• Almost all of my friends like to watch movies.
• Are we almost home yet? (Are we close to our house / apartment yet?)
• I was almost late because I didn’t hear my alarm. (I wasn’t late, but I was nearly late.)
